Turns out I really did not know how javascript’s array filter works. Indeed I have used it for a while but never really made use of some of its advanced features. E.g it accepts an extra param after the callback that is used as the execution context this for the callback.

Kattis has been fun, recently I hit 100 points. It was an amazing feeling. Now my appetite for competitive programming has grown even more. I want to learn what those top 50 members have done to get to where they are. So naturally I started looking around other peoples profiles, googling their names and I noticed a trend. People who have over 500 points are serious competitive programmers and most have UVa accounts. I suppose having a UVa account helps one to improve faster. Its only makes sense that exposure to more programming problems leads to improvements in problem solving skills even if you don’t solve majority of them.

I have been doing programming challenges using python and ruby on kattis and feel its time I tried solving them using a new language. How about go lang. I installed it via gvm I suppose it is to Go lang what rbenv is to ruby.

Sometimes you need to look up a certain word but you do not have the luxury of looking it up online. An offline dictionary will suffice. I was accustomed to using WordWeb on windows but after making the switch to ubuntu I wasn’t able to find a replacement. Turns out I can continue using it by installing wine on my machine (wordweb8, ubuntu 17.04, wine 1.87).

I wanted to add okhttp library to an android app and noticed that I could also use the same library in a regular java file. So I went for it. Good thing they provided some sample code.
